Hudson Bell
Yerba Buena
(Self-Release)

Both a person and a band from San Francisco, this trio have evolved immensely since their inception in the late ’80s as a bedroom 4 track operation. Bell’s fifth album doesn’t waste anytime diving headfirst into crunchy guitar rock waters, bringing in the College Rock influences from Bell’s intrigue with The Feels, as well as the timeless work of Matthew Sweet or the swirling noise and melody of Built To Spill. A fairly quick paced listen, Yerba Buena is full of the nervous tension that defined the early days of alternative rock, and unfolds like nostalgia laced with modern day anthemic and turbulent indie-rock. If your interests lie anywhere between Bright Eyes, Sebadoh and Pavement, don’t hesitate to pick this up.
