We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Sentient Horror’s new song “Abyssal Ways” (listen below). The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming debut full-length Ungodly Forms, being released December 9th through Redefining Darkness Records and Testimony Records.

Sentient Ways guitarist/vocalist Matt Moliti comments on the song:

“‘Abyssal Ways’ was one of the first tunes I wrote for ‘Ungodly Forms’ and remains one of my very favorite tunes from the record. I was trying to go for a mix between the classic Stockholm sound with a bit more of a Heartwork-era Carcass vibe in the guitar harmonies and riffs. The solo section was a ton of fun to write and play.

As far as the lyrics… it’s about a serial killer that receives orders to kill from Satan… classic B Horror movie stuff!”

About Sentient Horror:

Since 2015, Sentient Horror has been churning out classic Old School Death Metal so authentic, it led Swedish mastermind Dan Swanö (ex-Edge of Sanity, ex-Bloodbath, Witherscape) to remark: “..One of the best SweDeath projects I have come across in 20 years. The perfect blend of all the highlights from the Swedish scene from 89 to 91. Truly awesome!” How surprising then, that Sentient Horror hail not from Scandinavia but from northern New Jersey, USA.

The band was formed in 2014 by lead guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Matt Moliti (ex-Dark Empire). With the goal in mind to record death metal in the vein of the early ’90s Stockholm scene, Matt self-released the three-song demo Beyond the Curse of Death under the band name Sentience. After receiving an extremely positive response from publications such as Decibel Magazine and No Clean Singing, Matt put together a lineup to perform live. From working as a music instructor, Matt knew he could find the perfect musicians for the job. Ian Jordan (bass) and Ryan Cardoza (drums) were both former students of his whom he had known and taught for years. Through a coworker he met Jon Lopez who would join on rhythm guitar. After a name change to Sentient Horror and signing with Redefining Darkness Records (North America) and Testimony Records (Europe), they are ready to unleash their debut full-length Ungodly Forms on the world!

Ungodly Forms was mixed by Damian Herring (Horrendous) and mastered by Dan Swanö. With an emphasis on great songwriting and musicianship, it is catchy without sacrificing brutality, highlighted by memorable riffs and blistering guitar solos. Although heavily rooted in the early ’90s Stockholm scene, Sentient Horror are not afraid to include other influences, particularly the progressive leanings of early Edge of Sanity and the dissonant harmonies of bands like Gorefest and Carcass.
