New Noise Magazine is pleased to be bringing a classic metal vibe to the world from NYC’s Seven)Suns. Today, the string quartet has teamed up to premiere their full length record, For the Hearts Still Beating. Seven)Suns signed to The Dillinger Escape Plan’s label Party Smasher Inc. after founder and guitarist Ben Weinman saw the band perform a spot on cover of “43% Burnt,” a revered song from The Dillinger Escape Plan. If that wasn’t enough to highlight the talent of this band, Seven)Suns violinist/composer Earl Maneein launched Dependent Arising earlier in the year, highlighting the blend and composition of metal and classical music.
For the Hearts Still Beating starts of with an ominous twist in opener “Fratres Ghost Mix” but then begins into the maddening spiral of music that is “Trivisia,” which features all of the strings frantically creating dissonant melodies. The record has a uniqueness to it shines in its adversity; that is taking metal head on with dazzling string arrangements. Utilizing their talent for covers of “Heathens” (21 Pilots) and “43 Percent Burnt” (The Dillinger Escape Plan). Seven)Suns also bring original arrangements to the record with a track like “Yama.” In an aura of chaos, For the Hearts Still Beating is illuminating quite brilliantly.
“The title For the Hearts Still Beating was taken from Converge’s song ‘Last Light’. The music on our record was either written or arranged by me in the spirit of that Converge lyric. The current zeitgeist we are living in is a troubling one to say the least and I hope the listener finds a similar catharsis in listening to it that I found in writing it/choosing other people’s songs that fit and arranging them. Since we’re a string quartet and there aren’t any words to our songs, I can’t promise that the listener can immediately make sense of us, but it is also my hope that he or she will find it ultimately rewarding if they give the album a chance. I mean, we’re definitely not easy listening, or “soothing classical music” by any means.” – Earl Maneein.
