Epitaph Records has announced the release of InteriorsQuicksand’s first album in 22 years. Interiors fully captures the cathartic energy of the post-hardcore band’s early work, but ultimately achieves a much broader spectrum of sound. Grab the album here.

Produced and engineered by Will Yip (The Menzingers, Title Fight, Pianos Become the Teeth), Interiors was recorded at Studio 4 Recording in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. The album has already drawn critical acclaim from the likes of Consequence of Sound, who state: “Less an attempt at recapturing former glories, it sounds like the kind of record that Quicksand probably would have ended up making today if they never disbanded in the first place.”

In late August, Quicksand shared “Illuminant,” the emotionally charged lead single and opening track from Interiors.

Last month, shortly after finishing up their recent headlining tour of North America, Quicksand delivered another single from the album, a powerfully melodic track titled “Cosmonauts.”

Formed in 1990, Quicksand made their full-length debut with 1993’s Slip(recently praised by The A.V. Club as “a nearly flawless record that combines the irony and heaviness of Helmet with Fugazi’s penchant to dismantle sound in the most energetic ways”). Their sophomore album Manic Compressionarrived in 1995, later appearing at #1 on the Top Five Best Post-Hardcore Records list from LA Weekly (who noted that “if there were any justice in the world, Quicksand would have been the biggest underground band of the ’90s”).

As NPR notes, both Slip and Manic Compression “became necessary to the evolution of post-hardcore and indie-rock as they sound today.”

Throughout the early ’90s, Quicksand toured with bands like Helmet, Fugazi, Rage Against the Machine, and Anthrax. After disbanding in late 1995, they reunited for a one-night performance in June 2012. They’ve since appeared at festivals like FYF Fest and Pukkelpop, and in 2013 embarked on their first North American tour in 15 years.
