Album Review: Active Bird Community – Stick Around

Active Bird Community
Stick Around
(Self-Release)

While most bands who write an album at the end of college are probably starting their music career, Active Bird Community has already been playing together for over a decade, and it shows in the seamless chemistry on this throwback listen to early ’90s slacker rock. While there’s post-punk underpinnings and plenty of melodic discord, the album is rooted in a strong garage pop feel, where the apprehension of post-college life comes through in the turbulent but tense harmony. One of the best of the best from Brooklyn, Active Bird Community remind me of legends like Pavement as well as new stars like Ra Ra Riot.
