The Pop Group
Honeymoon On Mars
(Freaks R Us)

Since they reformed in 2010, The Pop Group have been busy and more relevant than ever, and with this second album of new material in 6 years they get well, weirder than ever, with unclassifiable sounds pieced together from countless genres. While some songs are disco punk and groove friendly, others are industrial and trip-hop influenced, but still, dub is the overriding sound, beneath the blurring genres. Mark Stewart’s vocals are still inimitable, both with fervor and a jagged quality, and the songs are often socio-political in nature, as the post-punk opens its arms to jazz and funk. Apocalyptic, daring, and warped, The Pop Group haven’t changed much since 1981 and we’re all better off for it.
