Thor & Friends
Self-Titled
(LM Duplication)

Probably better known as the percussionist for Swans as well as Shearwater for nearly a decade, Thor Harris and company churn out experimental minimalism here, making use of clarinets, violins, vibraphones and xylophones, among others, thereby laying down moods that are tense, dreamy and mysterious. Entirely instrumental (save some breathy cooing), it’s a highly unorthodox and ambient journey, where the diverse percussion and skilled wind instruments make it an inimitable listen that defies categorization, but certainly rests somewhere amid avant-garde, New Age and cinematic genius. You’ve probably never heard anything like this before, but will want to hear it again and again.
