New Jersey’s The Front Bottoms brought their emotional rock anthems to Denver, Colorado on Halloween night. Alongside Basement & Bad Bad Hats, the tour package was packed with incredible costumes, songs and fun. Bad Bad Hats started off the show as The Powerpuff Girls, playing songs from their LP Psychic Reader and warming up the crowd with incredibly soft and serene tones. It was a great way to get the crowd nodding along, without trying to overwhelm. Basement, dressed as characters from Mario World, came in loud with their signature sound of thick guitar tones and powerful vocals. Starting off with “Whole,” the group never let up in energy or dynamics. Not only was the sound incredible, but their performance as different characters in Mario were spot on. Their syncopation and finely tuned live performance started moving the crowd and getting people prepared for the main act. They were nothing short of amazing.

The Front Bottoms, dressed as Three Cat In The Hats and Thing 1 & Thing 2, started off their set with the opener to new album, Going Grey. The crowd responded and continued to respond by knowing all of the lyrics to their quirky, eccentric and passionate tunes. The band never missed a beat, and the production was spot on. It’s amazing how many infectious songs on vastly creative albums The Front Bottom have to work with, but their set flowed perfectly and did a great job at showcasing their depth in lyrical brevity and crushing rhythm patterns. “Vacation Town” was spot on, “Twin Size Mattress” was sentimental & “West Virginia” a tearjerker. Not one single song felt out of place, not one voice in the crowd went unheard. It really was an incredible performance and The Front Bottoms have fine tuned their sound in a well oiled, fun loving machine.
