INVSN, the Swedish punk all-stars featuring members of Refused and The (International) Noise Conspiracy among their ranks, invaded Los Angeles last week. The band has been gigging across North America touring in support of their fabulous new album, The Beautiful Stories.
The band’s highly politicized songs felt especially pertinent during this, chaotic/embarrassing/pre-apocalyptic time in America, while INVSN’s high energy performance and legit mastery of all things rock ‘n’ roll made for a run and dance filled Friday night rock show. An early show at that, since the venue had to accommodate for a 90’s Rock Club event taking place immediately afterward; something INVSN frontman Dennis Lyxzén affectionately referred to as, “The Blink-182 Disco.”
Disco aside, INVSN put on one hell of a show, time slot be damned. The infectious synths and grooves of songs like “Immer Zu” and “I Dreamt Music” can’t be denied. It’s hard not to have a blast when Dennis jumps down and walks through the audience to the back of the venue; then runs full speed and reverse stage dives [I guess it’s called?] and continues sings/dancing like a madman without missing a beat. Mr. Lyxzén shared some inspiring words in between songs; urging humans to coexist with other humans and anticipating the inevitable demise of our corrupt capitalist system [ya know, the good stuff]; before the band ripped into more jams and delivered more inspiring performances onstage. Good times on all fronts basically.
