Show Review: A Lot Like Birds at The Webster Underground in Hartford

Words & Photos by Brittany Isaacson

Post-hardcore group A Lot Like Birds brought the Webster Underground to life on Monday. The Sacramento natives recently set off on a tour supporting Emarosa alongside Jule Vera. Following the conclusion of the tour, A Lot Like Birds will continue on their own headlining run.

With the release of their latest album, Divisi, A Lot Like Birds’ heavier sound shifted to a more atmospheric feel. However, the record still presents that intense, passionate delivery similar to their past work. Their performance at the Webster perfectly showcased their evolution as a band.

From the first song, A Lot Like Birds immediately turned heads. Cory Lockwood’s intense vocals commanded the crowd’s attention as they echoed throughout the room. The melodic yet profound instrumentals complemented the vivid lyrics. Some of the most memorable moments of the set were the pieces of spoken word intertwined into the songs. Emotion spread throughout the room with every line and made the performance a memorable one that night.

I look forward to seeing A Lot Like Birds continue to evolve with future albums. Be sure to catch them on a supporting date of Emarosa’s tour, or on their headlining dates in October.
