“I don’t have much experience making playlists that I think anyone else would care to listen to. I usually add way to many songs and just hit shuffle so I don’t have to think too much about it. I decided to try and do something different this time. This isn’t really a “My Favorite Tracks” or “My Favorite Artists” Playlist. I wanted to do something that involves some artists I’ve listened to a lot over the years (Margot & The Nuclear So & So’s, Townes Van Zandt), as well as some I’ve only recently started getting into (Warpaint, American Aquarium, Junip). My main focus was to have it tell a little bit of a story. Of course I had to open with that incredible percussion intro from “A Children’s Crusade On Acid” which is the opening song to probably my favorite Margot record. I’ve been listening to a lot of David Bowie lately, so I think that’s why I had the playlist crescendo with “Let Me Sleep Beside You” and I even snuck an “Ashes to Ashes” cover in there. Finishing it off with the American Aquarium song “Harmless Sparks”, a song that if I hear it at the right time, almost brings me to my knees. By ending with that song it feels like the hero is returning from his/her journey, at least back on familiar territory. They’ve made it, not quite unscathed, but knowing a little more about themselves and the world around them.”
