Be Careful What You Wish For!
Founded in 2009, their music is straight-forward, hard driving and melodic hard rock with a metal edge. AUG is Anthony “Aug” Agostine on vocals and guitar, Tommy Strange on lead guitar and seasoned veteran players Rich Tanis on bass and Russ LaMater on drums. The band performed at the 2011, 2012 and 2013 That Metal Show’s Christmas party at Dingbatz with Eddie, Don and Jim.
I walked into this wondering if it was going to be something that I would want to listen to more than once and now I can’t get the damn thing turned off or the songs out of my head. Be Careful What You Wish For… is the sophomore release from AUG, and it is straight up rock and it embodies everything about it from the heavy guitar riffs, the harmonized vocals, the pounding bass, the thundering drums, and the raging guitar solos. This has elements of metal from the ‘80s, but keeps the cheese turned all the way down until the cover of Toto’s “Africa” which really doesn’t belong on an album with such amazing original songs like “The Devil’s Rejects,” the title track and “Coming Home,” as well as the others. You can hear the influence of Ozzy in the song “Coming Home” and it takes that influence and adds enough originality to make it one blistering track.
With a dire shortage of great hard rock / metal bands that have the right mixture of older and modern sounds, this really was a great breath of fresh air that I am excited to hear. It’s not too often when you find a band that just gives you a punch in the guts and completely blows you away…this is one of those bands. (Rick Ecker)
