Gene Clark
Two Sides To Every Story
(High Moon)

The chief songwriter on The Byrds, Clark’s 1977 solo disc lives again with expanded packaging (a 20+ book) and plenty of unreleased bonus material. With genres like folk-rock and psyche-rock being more prominent than ever, it’s a timely reissue as Clark was a pioneer of these sub-genres, and that vision is evident here with influences of country and blues and with some balladry as well. A less calculated album than his earlier commercially successful work, this does represent some of Clark’s most inspired songwriting. (Tom Haugen)
