Runner Of The Woods
Thirsty Valley

Imagine the greatest, rustic moments of Ryan Adams combined with the breezy melodies of The Jayhawks or Wilco’s early days and you get an idea of how vital this album by Nick Beaudoing is. Country but not in the usual sense of the word, and folk but sans the hippie elements, Beaudoing’s songs soundtrack the expanse of his Tennessee home, and move with warm pedal steel and soothing organs, as well the occasional playful and louder guitar rock tune. If you only pick up one Americana album this year, you’d be wise to make it this one. (Tom Haugen)
