Travis Hayes
Young Daze

A San Francisco multi-instrumentalist/songwriter whose sound is right at home in the era of mid ’90s thoughtful indie-rock, Hayes’ gruff voice is reminiscent of all your favorite post-hardcore singers who have been picking up harmonicas lately. Overall on the folksy side of the spectrum, specks of blues, ’70s rock and a female vocal cameo keep things changing, though the pensive tones and eloquent words are a constant. Usually I feel albums of this ilk would make for better EPs, but Hayes provided a varied and compelling half hour here. (Tom Haugen)
