Angel Olson has released a music video for the song “Sister.” The song comes from the latter half of her upcoming album, My Woman, out September 2nd via Jagjaguwar. My Woman is put together with thought to Side A and Side B, as the former has short, punchy songs and the latter is stacked with lengthier tracks that build up to the climax. “Sister” is a near nine minute epic with plenty for the listener to gain in the emotional weight packed in by Angel Olson. The song’s big shit is wrapped around the lyrics, “My life I thought I’d change.” During this reflection, the instrumentals pick back up with a distinctive determination.
For the video, Angel Olson teamed up with Conor Hagen to help direct the video. Olson comments, “I wanted to keep from cutting these shots up too much. I wanted to slow frames down just enough for the cinematography to make its own statement. My aim was to gather a mixture of very different themed material, and somehow take a look at the synchronicity that material naturally brought forward.” This helps the music video find the contrast between the dualities inherent to the song.
