Minneapolis by way of North Dakota’s Animal Lover are premiering their full length, Stay Alive. The album is due out September 9th via Forward Records. After a fuzzy, winding intro the record takes its pace with “Dreamhouse” and from then on the album never loses its energy. Stay Alive is a punk experimental record, finding a way to combine other various genres into on cohesive art form. While dissonant in most areas, the band does find a way to make melodies happen, even if in an eerie way, like “Refrain.”
Their otherwise warped songs show Animal Lover in a new light, ready to take action and continue their ravenous style of music. They bite with disjunct and continue their assault all the way till the closing number, “Waterparks Of America,” an epic song that build sand builds until the final beat down. It may not be the prettiest music ever, but it shows ambition and heart.
