Killing Joke’s groundbreaking self-titled debut LP is 40 years old! The band and the album would set the standard for post-punk that was as aggressive as punk itself. Killing Joke would also provide a significant blueprint for what would become industrial music. Listen to Killing Joke below.

Killing Joke formed in London in 1978. According to front man Jaz Coleman, the purpose of the band was to “define the exquisite beauty of the atomic age in terms of style, sound and form.” Killing Joke would be a big influence on bands as varied as Metallica, Ministry, Nirvana, and Nine Inch Nails.

Killing Joke are still alive and kicking, and as of 2008, all four original members (vocalist/keyboardist Coleman, guitarist Geordie Walker, bassist and drummer Paul Ferguson) are back in the fold. Four decades have done nothing to diminish the harsh, raw power of Killing Joke.
