Megadeth’s classic LP Rust In Peace is 30 years old today! While the band’s first three records had already established them as a musical force to be reckoned with, Rust In Peace cemented their place among thrash legends like Anthrax, Metallica and Slayer.
Megadeth had always played with a chip on their shoulder, but Rust In Peace took it to the next level. The songs were better, with the perfect balance of heaviness and melody. The guitar playing showed technical prowess that seemed almost superhuman.
Kick back and listen to “Holy Wars”, “Hangar 18” and the rest, and be transported back to that brief but brilliant time when thrash metal ruled the world.
1990 was a great year for thrash and metal. Beyond Megadeth, there were a ton of amazing releases. Anthrax – Persistence of Time, Danzig – Lucifuge, Death Angel – Act lll, Pantera – Cowboys From Hell, Slayer – Seasons in the Abyss, and Suicidal Tendencies – Lights…Camera…Revolution have all reached the three decade mark.
