The Jam’s 5th studio album, Sound Affects, is 40 years old today! The album contained a couple of firsts for The Jam, who had been around since the early ’70s. Sound Affects was the first and only record co-produced by the band. It also contains, “Music for the Last Couple”, the first and only song credited as being co-written by the entire band. Listen to Sound Affects in its entirety below.
The Jam formed in Woking, England in 1972, while its members were still in secondary school. They were influenced not only by the surging punk movement, but also by the Mod style of The Who and the R&B of Motown. They released six studio albums between 1977 and 1982 when they broke up. They also scored an impressive 18 consecutive top 40 singles in the UK.
