Anniversary: The Jesus and Mary Chain’s Debut LP Turns 35

The Jesus and Mary Chain’s debut LP, Psychocandy, is 35 years old today! In the three and a half decades since its release, its nearly perfect balance of noise and melody have rarely been matched. Even if you’re not very familiar with the Reid brothers, The Jesus and Mary Chain have probably influenced a bunch of your favorite bands. Listen to Psychocandy in its entirety below.

The Jesus and Mary Chain formed in East Kilbride, Scotland in the early ’80s. The noisy post-punk pioneers were the brainchild of brothers Jim and William Reid. They released six challenging but critically acclaimed albums before splitting up in 1999. They reformed in 2007, and made their studio comeback with 2017’s Damage and Joy.
