Adam DeGross:

A$AP Ferg was one of the first people to ever contact me on instagram about 2 years ago,  just saying he’s a fan of my work. I thought that was cool, and hoped one day it would turn into something

Fast forward a year, I shot his show in MN, he DMS me on Instagram the next day after seeing the photos I posted, asking if I wanted to talk on the phone. We talked, and he invited me on the rest of the tour with him. We did a brief run together, and stayed in touch, and one night almost a year after that he called me asking if I wanted to turn my photos into a video for him. Originally I was just going to be a creative consultant, and I was going to organize a diy show for him.

I set off to make it happen, I live in Minneapolis MN, but had contacts in LA where the video was set to be shot. I got ahold of my dudes in Nomads and Mike the singer schooled me to a venue that would be perfect (the Mime) I got ahold of them and when I got the venue locked in, Nomads jumped on to play, quickly followed by my friends in Xibalba. It was going to be a diy show for Asap Ferg, Xibalba and Nomads, which is super cool in itself.

Everything was cool, and I was in touch with ferg and the original director who were both into the idea. Then there was a snag, the director and his team couldn’t make it. Instead of calling it all off, I said fuck it, I’ll do it. I had never done a video, directed, or anything like that, but I believed in the idea and knew I could make it happen. I contacted my friend Nolan Morice, who is a very well respected videographer from Minneapolis, who went out of his way to help with this video. He also had a great deal to do with editing it, and I couldn’t have gotten this done without him. By then there was already a buzz online about this weird show happening, and we thought it was going to be overwhelming, but when we arrived at the venue on the day of, everything went perfectly.

The bands killed it, asap ferg killed it, and despite what people are saying online, this was not staged. There were no retakes, and the only direction I gave the crowd was to keep their phones in their pockets, and to move around. This video is as raw as it gets, and is as diy as it gets.

Punk and hip hop have always gone hand in hand, and im glad I was able to add to that tradition.
