Fraser of The Murderburgers interviewing Stacey Dee of Bad Cop / Bad Cop

I was recently arrested for literally nothing back home and both of the cops were definitely bad ones. Have any of you ever had to deal with particularly shitty cops?

Really, only the TSA! That one lady was a horrible twat!

Stacey, you are a cat and dog saving superhero of sorts. How many do you reckon you have saved this year so far, and how many garbage people have you smashed to bits for being shitty towards animals?

This year I have rescued a kitten and her name is TaTa, after Pablo Escobar’s wife, TaTa. TaTa got knocked up before I could get her fixed and now I have TaTa and her kittens. All 4 of them. The only person I’ve been smashing to bits is myself for continuing to rescue animals.

I may have just made this up, but 2016 is the year of the first annual Bad Cop/Bad Cop dance off rammy. Which one of you is most likely to win?

Stacey. Though, Linh’s got moves too.

From what my ginger ears have heard, there will be a new Bad Cop/Bad Cop record coming out next year. Have you finished writing it yet? What can everyone expect?

We are writing it now! Yeah! Expect that shit soon! You can expect real good singing and real catchy tunes with somewhat serious, smart and funny lyrics.

Repeat the last question but replace “there will be a new Bad Cop/Bad Cop record” with “there may be a Stacey Dee solo record” and then replace “next year” with “at some point.”

Yes, I am also writing songs for an acoustic solo record. Been playing solo gigs a bunch too! My first song comes out on the Fat Comp Mild in the Streets. I hope to get more songs recorded ASAP! Probably after this tour!

Right, back to the serious questions. Did you get the chance to eat any potentially life threatening deep fried food while you were in Scotland with Snuff and Spoilers recently? If so, on a scale of 1 to “I can’t stop being sick out of both ends,” how awful did you feel the next day?

I don’t remember eating anything but a spinach and hummus sandwich. No weird poops BUT the backstage bathroom was way too close to the sitting room… So whenever anyone took a big shit, it filled the room with fresh poo scent. That was grim.

Jennie is an awesome artist and did the artwork for your lovely debut album Not Sorry. Even though Jennie is clearly capable, and I can only really draw Pac-Man, can I do the album art next time round? You will probably have to start writing a lot of songs about Pac-Man if the answer is yes.

No, you can’t do it.

Stacey Dee of Bad Cop / Bad Cop interviewing Fraser of The Murderburgers

Is it hard being a Murderburger?

Life would probably be easier if I wasn’t one, but it would be a lot less interesting otherwise. Sadly I’m the only permanent member of the band and don’t have the option to bail even if I wanted to, so I guess I’m stuck with it. I’ve tried firing myself various times over the years but it hasn’t really worked out.

I see that your band seems to attract crazy people and situations. Why? Do you think the monkey’s paw curse will be lifted any time soon?

I have no idea why. These days I do my best to avoid crazy people and crazy situations, but sometimes it’s unavoidable, and sometimes they just come out of nowhere. I don’t think the curse will be lifted any time soon, but I think I’m okay with that. At least I always have something new to moan about.

One of my favorite songs of yours is called “Muted and Brown.” What’s is really about?

It’s about making a proper attempt at not locking yourself in a dark room after having a mental breakdown and trying to get you shit together instead. I wrote that after I went a bit insane a few years ago. I had what is known as a “mental wobble.” That song was originally just called “Muted & Brown,” but I changed it to “Everything Is Muted & Brown” so that less people would assume it was about silently shitting your pants.

Do you think life would be easier as a 6′ Swiss blonde dude?

I don’t think I could handle that. I’ll stick to being a small lady man. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – life’s too short to be tall!

Do you think your dad will ever be good enough on the drums to be your permanent European drummer?

I bloody hope so. He’s getting pretty good at them anyway. He retires soon so he’ll have no excuse for not being able to tour constantly. I’m going to run him into the ground.

You guys have a new record coming out super soon on Asian Man Records. Are you fucking stoked? What kind of stuff are you writing about?

Yes! It turned out awesome. This time round I recorded with Matt Allison at Atlas Studios in Chicago, and had help from the guys in Masked Intruder, Dear Landlord and Copyrights since I didn’t really have a band together at the time. The songs are mainly about trying not to be a piece of shit, worrying about other people, and living in Edinburgh. Expect some extra grim song titles this time.

Define a proper RAMMY.

We use it instead of saying “party,” but whatever you’re doing can be a proper rammy as long as you’re having a great time doing it. I had a good sleep rammy last night, had a lovely coffee rammy earlier and I’m looking forward to having a lovely US tour rammy this month!

Has anyone ever mistaken you for a member of Bad Cop/Bad Cop in a foggy Scottish teen club?

They have indeed! FAR TOO MANY TIMES, MAAAAAAAN.
