Object as Subject is the art-rock solo project of singer-songwriter Paris Hurley out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She put out a new album earlier this year called Heretic, and it’s streaming now on her Bandcamp where you can also order the album on vinyl.
The record starts off with the title track, which slowly builds up ambient sounds before the instrumentation comes in and builds a moody, dark post-punk track. “Monsoon” has a bit of a goth vibe a la Garbage with a touch of industrial. “Temporary Bodies” is definitely a highlight track with darkwave elements and huge, powerful vocals. Closing track “The Body Knows” pulls out a driving dance beat to make a gothic-style dance track that could work at any goth night. The whole album has a brooding energy that should appeal to any post-punk fan.
