Ars Notoria are a technical death metal band turned solo project for Antoine Grasser.
This artist just dropped their latest album Chronicles on Great Dane Records. It’s available on their label’s Bandcamp page where you can also order it on CD. Opening track “Headspit” really puts the “technical” in technical death metal as Grasser and guest artist Gautier Russel demonstrate amazing talents as the guitar, drums, and bass come together like a machine gun firing rapidly. Then, “Save the Book” featuring Cyril Cozza is a bit more freewheeling, demonstrating some killer guitar licks under truly demonic and booming vocals. It gradually builds to a furious crescendo of face-melting guitar solos.
“Triggered” featuring Michael Crass Da Silva is all over the place with its haunting guitar riffs and drums so rapid-fire the beats almost become one sustained note. “Wide Open” featuring Loïc Mullheim is full of starts and stops and staccato beats that give way to abrupt tempo changes. If you want to marvel at some truly impressive musicianship, you have to check out this album.
