Bandcamp of the Day: Big Clown

Big Clown

Big Clown are a weirdo noise/punk group from Memphis, Tennessee.

They’re releasing a new seven-inch at the end of the month on June 30 on Swimming Faith Records. The first two singles off the seven-inch are now available on the band’s Bandcamp, where you can also pre-order the album on vinyl.

First, “Frogman” is a short burst of noisy energy as the lyrics envision a bizarre new dance crazy called the Frogman which, presumably, just consists of hopping. The absurdity gives the tune a novelty feel, but musically, it’s really on the noisier edge of punk rock. Similarly “Broke” is a sort of dirtier, fuzzier version of a Yeah Yeah Yeah’s song about spending excessive amounts of money on therapy and pills to come up with nothing.
