Bin Chicken are, once again, a fuzz punk outfit from Chicago.
Bin Chicken actually got to be out Bandcamp of the Day back in November, but since they have a new EP that they just put out on Friday, we thought we’d revisit with them. Their new EP is called Drum Machine Fuzz Punks From Outer Space, and it almost takes you longer to say the album title than it does to play the whole record. It’s streaming now on their Bandcamp.
The EP starts off with “NO DRUMMERS!!! NOT EVER!!!” which declares the band’s mantra against ever using a human drummer, which actually adds to the fuzzy, electronic side of their sound. Then “AJ’s Polka” shifts gears dramatically with a literal polka that lets the irony of putting a polka on a punk album speak for itself, without having to play it up for humor.
“The Goofy Blues” also isn’t kidding about its name, as it’s a big, fuzzy, blues-punk jam. Finally, the EP closes on “Bin Chicken is Going Back to Outer Space (Yeah, ‘cuz We’re Sick of the Human Race)” which is fun and silly and very punk rock in just how little subtlety is contained in the song. But the track’s nearly four-minute track length is mostly due to ambient noise added in after the actual song ends. It’s a really bizarre album, but in a good and genuinely enjoyable way.
