Ch’ahom are a black metal band with heavy prog influence from Essen, Germany. They’re gearing up for the release of their debut album Knots of Abhorrence on November 3 on Sentient Ruin Records, and the first single, “Chavín de Huántar,” as well as a Bandcamp-exclusive bonus track called “Ts’Ono’Ot,” are streaming on the label’s Bandcamp, where you can also preorder the album on vinyl, CD, and cassette.
“Chavín de Huántar” starts out with a touch of free jazz and some new-age style instrumentations before the guitars roar to life and consume the song in a fury of black metal. The music is brutal, but the vocals are even more so, with a thunderous, gravelly growl that almost overshadows the incredible musicianship. “Ts’Ono’Ot” similarly starts with sound effects to create a sense of ambiance, but before you know it, the guitars tear into the song and those epic vocals once again take over. It promises to be a sprawling and powerful full length when it drops next month.
Ch’ahom don’t have their own social media presence, but they are part of Devouring Opaion, which is a collective of black/death metal bands from North Rhine-Westphalia and you can follow Devouring Opaion on Instagram to keep up with future updates.
