Coagulate are an old-school death metal group from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Last year, they put out a seven-inch known simply as Rehearsal Demo 2022 in digital format as well as on cassette and CD, and it was so acclaimed that it’s now getting a vinyl release from Gurgling Gore Records in North America and Dawnbreed Records in Europe. But you can try before you buy and listen to this amazing seven-inch on their Bandcamp to understand why you need to own it on vinyl.
The seven-inch starts with the verbosely titled “Divination in Gore (The Tender Caress of Necromancy; The Volatile Art of Cadaver Inquisition)” is pretty long at nearly six minutes in length, yet it’s not a slow burner but rather six full minutes of sustained intensity. Sure, it goes through peaks and valleys like any song and moves through an emotional arc, but at no point does the song let up on the powerful guitars, the snarling vocals, and the blast beats. Then “The Suck” is even longer and might have a slightly slower tempo, but it’s every bit as hard and heavy as the first track. It’s easy to see why this record got picked up for a wider release.
