Desert Mambas are a queer Americana/indie-folk solo project of Foxx Bodies guitarist Bailey Moses out of Los Angeles, California.
The project recently released a new single and video called “Buzz Cut Blues” via Kill Rock Stars Nashville. The song and the video are both available on the artist’s Bandcamp.
The track is a simple, acoustic guitar track with a few added electronic studio effects that give it vague echoes of Cassadaga-era Bright Eyes. The melodies on this track are absolutely haunting. The lyrics are about the joys of one’s first queer haircut and the transphobia, hatred, and indignities suffered by trans people upon going out in public. “And I feel like everyone/Hates me in their own way,” sings Moses, starting the song off with one of its own most heartbreaking lyrics. As for the video, it’s a mishmash of masculine imagery found in the Los Angeles area. Fans of queer music as well as good-quality indie folk will love this track.
Desert Mambas are on Instagram and Twitter, so you can follow them for future updates.
