Earth Altar are a proggy doom metal band from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
They have a new split LP coming out with Sun Below called Inter Terra Solis. It’s out on September 15, and the full split is available for preorder through Black Throne Productions. Earth Altar’s first single off the split, called “The Descent” is currently streaming on their Bandcamp.
“The Descent” is built on a very simple stoner doom riff that swirls around to create a whirlwind of heavy sound. It’s a long, droning space rock tune with lots of layers of atmosphere that build the song to a crushing crescendo after a powerful slow build over the course of six minutes. The description on their Bandcamp sums it up nicely when it says that it’s trying “to paint a picture of digging in or digging down, a sense of longing or searching.” That definitely comes through in a masterful use of classic doom metal grooves, leaving us with great hope about both sides of this upcoming split.
