Bandcamp of the Day: Ex Lover

Ex Lover

Ex Lover are a bilingual post-punk act out of Omaha, Nebraska.

They just dropped their new album, Devotion, yesterday. The first two singles off of the album are available on the band’s Bandcamp page, and the full album is currently streaming on all platforms.

The first single, “Dancefloor,” is, unsurprisingly, a post punk dance tune. The swirling guitars and hypnotic beat really carry this song as the femme vocals croon beautifully. Yet, for all it’s dance elements, it’s got a deep, dark, gothic undertone to it that invites you into a fantastical night club world. This would be an absolute banger at any goth club.

Then the second single, “When I See You,” has some synth elements mixed with a dance beat, but there’s also a driving, punk tempo to the song that gives it a sense of immediacy. The vocals are just slightly distorted, giving the lyrics an almost dreamlike quality that leaves you in a fog of nostalgia and emotion.
