Bandcamp of the Day: Feefawfum

Feefawfum

Feefawfum is a math rock band from Oakland, California.

They have a new album coming out on September 8 called 100 which is a concept album about healthcare policy and culture through a diabetic lens. The first single, called “DKA” (which stands for diabetic ketoacidosis) is now streaming on their Bandcamp along with the accompanying music video from director Theo Slavin. You can also pre-order the album on vinyl on Bandcamp.

“DKA” has a typical math rock vibe in that it’s constantly shifting tempos, but they all congeal into a coherent whole so well that you almost might not recognize it as math rock right away. The fact that the song is about a concrete sociopolitical issue is something that stands out for math rock, where lyrics tend to be far more abstract. The video is a very low-budget spoof on horror tropes in which DKA is made into a literal horror monster that stalks the film’s protagonist. It promises to be a really good LP when it drops next month.
