Flores y Fuego (that’s Flowers and Fire in English) are a hardcore punk band from Guadalajara, Mexico.
This femme-fronted hardcore band actually put out their album Altar digitally back in 2021. But it’s finally getting a proper vinyl pressing on Pirates Press Records. So let’s take a look back on the record ahead of its long-overdue physical release.
The album starts off with “Soy Tu Voz” (“I’m Your Voice”), which has a certain Hüsker Dü-esque earnestness to its distinctly hardcore punk style. Then “Muerde el Anzuelo” (“Bite the Hook”) kicks things into high gear with a short and punchy punk song with the last thing one would expect from a punk song: a raging guitar solo.
The title track rings out with a sort of Pixies-esque melody and bass riff that gives way to something harder and more distinctly hardcore punk. “Por Una Cadena Más Larga” (“For a Longer Chain”) ends the album with a classic hardcore rager but with a hint of melody that keeps them from blending in with the hardcore crowd. All in all, it’s easy to see how this album finally ended up getting its physical release.
No word on the preorders of the album yet, but you can follow the band on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with future updates.
