Friend are a self-described “goblin punk” band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Friend are putting out their new album DOG EAT DOG on February 4 of next year on Born Losers Records, and right now the first two singles, “THIS DOG DON’T BITE” and “ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD” are streaming now on their Bandcamp, where you can also preorder the album in digital, vinyl, and cassette formats.
“THIS DOG DON’T BITE” starts off with harp music, which is an odd way to start off a punk album to say the least, and then moves into this understated pop-punk tune with deeply disaffected vocals and quirky embellishments that create a unique energy that’s unlike anything else in punk right now. Then “ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD” blares in with its fuzzy guitars and even fuzzier gang vocals that make for an oddly melodic form of chaos. This album is brimming with originality just from the first two singles and shows amazing promise for when it drops next year.
