Bandcamp of the Day: Gorgeous

Gorgeous

Gorgeous are a noise-pop duo from New York City.

They just put out their second album, Sapsucker, on Sad Cactus Records. It’s now streaming on the artist’s Bandcamp page where you can also order the album on cassette or CD.

It starts out with “Sweet,” which sounds like a wall of pure, chaotic noise before the beautiful femme vocals come in at the end, and chaos gives way to a semblance of order. Then “Elbow Stress Rash” is a weird, chord-based song that sounds like a bizarre twist on punk rock with brief bursts of pure pop. “Big Hands” is a really unusual spoken word track interspersed with spastic moments of musicality.

“If You Snooze You’ll Lose Me” plays like a deconstructed pop tune with a disjointed beat. Finally, “Tooth” closes out the album with some trippy synths and electronic beats and a really noisy, distorted guitar. Overall, it’s an album for anyone who likes noise rock with just a little bit of pop structure holding it together.
