June Swoon is the alternative folk solo project of Juli Lydell from Los Angeles.
Swoon recently released a new single called “Blue Bayou.” It’s the last single off of her upcoming album A House With Windows Open, which is due out tomorrow. I’ve never heard of an album being released on a Saturday, but hey, why not? “Blue Bayou” is currently available on Swoon’s Bandcamp.
Clocking in at nearly six-and-a-half minutes, “Blue Bayou” is a folk rock journey through different tones and emotions. The song starts out slowly with simple chords strummed slowly on an acoustic guitar, but soon the drums and keys come in and the sound starts to fill out. There’s a deep sense of melancholy here that builds up to a point about 90 seconds in where the song stops short before becoming louder and more forceful, but still with an amazing sense of folk and pop melodies.
It does a lot of loud/quiet/loud throughout the song which builds up tension and releases it in an explosion of emotion. “Sisyphus won’t bring breakfast in bed” is one of the best lines in a song that I’ve heard in a long time. If you’re a fan of good-quality folk music, you have to check out this song, as well as the rest of the album when it becomes available tomorrow.
Make sure to follow Swoon on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with future updates.
