Knife the Symphony are a post-hardcore band from Cincinnati, Ohio.
They recently released a digital version of their new album All the Wrong Turns Taken to Get Here on Phratray Records. The physical album comes out June 30. You can stream the album right now on their Bandcamp, where you can also preorder the album on CD or vinyl.
The album starts with “Wildling I/Islands,” and immediately the Fugazi influence here is apparent. But even still, there’s a bit of a faster beat than what one would expect from a Fogazi track, which gives the song an unexpected energy. Then “Boulevard Inn (2022)” keeps that energy going with a fast punk track with some clear post-hardcore elements.
“Sequestered” takes things down a notch, as the song comes in with some slow, undistorted guitar to create a sense of atmosphere before slowly building up the energy in the song. “A Light Withheld/Thermo-Man” is the longest track on the album, clocking in at almost seven minutes in length, and it starts off with some very strange distortion sounds before launching into something faster that’s reminiscent of At the Drive-In. Finally, the opening track’s sequel, “Wildling II,” closes off the album with some ambient sounds that slowly build into a really interesting little tune of acoustic instruments. There’s really a lot to discover and love on this album.
