Welcome back to the working week! Monde UFO are a dream pop act from Los Angeles, California.
They have a new LP coming out on April 21 on Quindi Records with the verbose title Vandalized Statue to Be Replaced With Shrine. The first two singles are currently available to stream on their Bandcamp page. There, you can also order the album on vinyl.
First, “Government Employee” is a delightfully fun mix of dream pop, bossa nova, and a touch of jazz. The disaffected vocals create a sense of detachment which matches the soft style of the music. The lyrics are also bizarrely visceral and packed with amazing imagery. Then comes “Visions of Fatima,” which largely sticks to the same vibe and also comes with a very experimental music video centered around a statue of the Virgin Mary. You have to see this video to appreciate it because it cannot be easily described.
