Happy Friday, rockers! Negative Sun are a hardcore punk/grindcore band out of Tokyo, Japan. They recently put out a new demo simply called Demo ’23 which is streaming on their Bandcamp now.
The demo is pure hardcore fury, with none of the three tracks cracking the two-minute mark. It starts with “G.I.M.P.” which opens with an announcement saying, “Plastic has been found in human blood for the first time” before exploding into a chaotic explosion of spastic hardcore fury.
“TV Dinner” has a long, slow, deliberate introduction that almost sound reminiscent of doom or sludge until everything stops but the bass for a moment and then the drums kick back in with breakneck speed and the hardcore comes rushing back to the surface. It even finishes with a cover of “Dracula Mountain,” originally by Providence, Rhode Island-based noise rock legends Lightning Bolt, that captures the spirit of the original in less than half the time and with guitars in place of keyboards. This demo is a noisy, brief masterpiece for any hardcore fan.
