Own Your Life are a metalcore band from Saint Neots, U.K. They put out a new EP earlier this year called This Hate which is streaming right now on their Bandcamp.
They are a band who proudly find themselves pulling from both punk and metal influences and pulling off both of them really well. Opening track “Ultor” opens on a black metal riff as the power chords and bass come thundering in to create something distinctly metallic, but then quickly switches gears and starts pummeling you with blackened hardcore punk. Then “Never Admit Defeat” opens up with big chunky power chords before giving way to some sick metal solos and blast beats, and then moves back into a more hardcore punk realm with classic black metal-style vocals.
The EP closes on the title track, which is more powerful punk/metal with solid grooves from the rhythm section. There’s even a secret track, which is just pure blackened punk intensity with machine-gun drumming. If you love to see punk and metal combined—and, honestly, who doesn’t—they are definitely a band to check out.
