Bandcamp of the Day: Sages From the Future

Sages From the Future

Sages From the Future are a pop punk band from Kolkata, India.

They recently released their debut album Paradise on Dammit Records, and it’s currently streaming on their label’s Bandcamp, where you can also order the album on CD.

Opening track “What the Fun” is a bouncy, Ramones-inspired pop-punk tune that really dials up the bubblegum pop in the melody. Then “Pills in the Eyes” starts with some acoustic guitar finger-picking before launching into some pure punk fuzz with a killer pop hook. “World Without Love” gives us an Offspring-style pop-hardcore style track reminiscent of “The Kids Aren’t Alright.”

“Peace on the Dead” is catchy and spirited like a Vandals’ song with just a touch of early Blink-182 in the bridge. The title track is chock-full of big, chunky power chords with a chorus that brings to mind early Sum 41 tunes. “The Last Man on Earth” is a swinging little ditty with a touch of Living End-esque psychobilly. “Live ‘N Let Live” is based around a really hopeful little guitar part that’s got the warm of Blink’s “What’s My Age Again?” Finally “Wake Up ‘N Run” continues that warmth at the beginning before transitioning into some straight-forward punk. This is as good as pop-punk gets.
