Salaman Isku is a psychedelic metal artist from France. They recently put out a new album on Bitume Prods called Le Voyage Nocturne (The Night Journey), and it’s currently streaming on the label’s Bandcamp where you can also order the album on CD.
The album opens on “Le Crépuscule” (“Twilight”), which starts out fairly quiet with some beautiful finger picking before moving into some chord-heavy punk followed by some trippy metal solos. “L’Initiation” (“The Initiation”) gets a little closer to what we would consider traditional metal, but still with some heavy punk elements and a surprisingly upbeat tone.
The title track brings in some more standard cookie-monster-esque metal vocals and some killer guitar riffs mixed with some more tripped-out psychedelic elements. “Le Rêve” (“The Dream”) slows down to an almost sludgey pace as the guitars and vocals move upwards towards a glorious crescendo. Finally “L’Aurore” (“Dawn”) ends the surprisingly upbeat metal album on a darker note as the heavy bass creates a sinister feel to the tune.
