The Hot Takes are a self-described “neon rock” dance-punk band out of Oakland, California.
They recently released a new EP called The Hot Takes II and it’s currently available on their Bandcamp.
Opening track “Drop Dead On the Dance Floor” certainly lives up to the band’s dance-punk promise. Then lead single “Up All Night” has a classic, victory rock feel to it reminiscent of 1970s classic rock bands like Queen, with a glorious sense of success and power that surges through every moment of the song from the beginning to the end. Then “Barely in Love” has almost a Springsteen-esque sense of nostalgia to it. Finally, closing track “Cannonball” is the most unabashedly fun dance tune on the whole album and ends the whole EP on a note of truly delirious 80s pop fun.
