Walter Etc. are an indie punk band from Ventura, California. They have a new album coming out on September 8 called When the Band Breaks Up Again, and it’s available for digital pre-order on the band’s Bandcamp where you can also hear the first three singles off the album.
The opening track, which is also the album’s title track, is a Jeff Rosenstock-esque pop-punk tune that relies on a self-deprecating sense of humor to carry the song. Then “GTFO Thoreau” uses robotic-sounding voices to supplement the cynical pop-punk track with just a hint of Weezer-style emo. Finally, Sylvie’s a mess harkens back to ’90s pop-punk and post-grunge a la the Lemonheads. It’s an album with a lot of different punk styles, but they all seem to be united by how catchy and witty the songs are.
