Bandcamp of the Day: Xexyz

Xexyz are a symphonic black metal band who replaces the keyboard sounds in their music with noises from NES consoles. They’re from Chicago, Illinois.

They recently put out an album on Super Sargasso Records called Gamera, and boy, do the addition of those NES consoles make all the difference. Opening track “Blocking the Sun” introduces the band’s style in a big, bold way, and then “King Gamera” brings the pummeling metal sounds. “Worship Him” takes on more of a prog sound. “Mountain of Blood” nicely balances the metal guitars against the NES sounds. “Only I Can See Your Face” makes the NES the primary instrument that carries the song to the album’s conclusion.
