Bat Boy, the power pop newcomers featuring members of Spraynard and Sundials, have premiered their new music video for “Piñata Break.” The exuberant track comes from the band’s debut EP, Couldn’t Keep Up, out now from Asian Man Records.
“Piñata Break” is a perfect example of Bat Boy’s infectious sound with its combination of fuzzed out ’90s alternative, punk attack, and sugary harmonies from vocalist Hannah Eagle. The track’s music video captures the Bat Boy’s ability to balance real poignancy with a hefty dose of humor, depicting a relationship gone wrong that can only be salvaged by a copious amounts of candy, fake blood, and loud tunes.
Recorded by Modern Baseball’s Ian Farmer at The Metal Shop, Couldn’t Keep Up has a palpable sense of fun running through its crunchy guitars and sugary melodies. However, Bat Boy’s debut isn’t just lighthearted good times. Each song packs a serious emotional punch beneath the bouncy instrumentals, with Eagle’s witty-yet-poignant lyrics offering her own experiences and insecurities as a means to assuage others.
Bat Boy will be playing The Fest 16 this weekend in Gainesville, Florida, then kicking off a lengthy run of East Coast tour dates in November alongside Doll Baby. See full itinerary below.
