Airships on the Water is solo project of Take Shapes’ drummer Russel Hensley. The post-rock act has recently released a new album, Lake Shaped Embrace.
The record is introspective, songs like opening track, “Tunnels In,” produces an angelic feel as it progresses and picks up its past. Instruments such as piano play alongside light drums making for an electric sound.
“Like a Wall to the Vine,” climbs through, putting forth an abstract moments, and it moves into the next track, a graceful descend is made, highlighting the artist’s ability to make softer music, contrasting between previous tracks.
Songs like “Leveler” play with other elements in music, making for a unique and robust melody.
The record closes on “Tunnels Out” following the same format as “Tunnels In,” pulling the record to completion, almost as if waking up from a night’s sleep.
Lake Shaped Embrace embodies an otherworldly atmosphere, creating stories through sound.
