A Day In The Life with Silver Snakes

Words & Photos by Joe Calixto

Earlier this year I went on a month long tour with Silver Snakes. A month of insane amounts of driving through a very odd tour route, good people, shitty people, coffee, beer, tofurkey and, for me, a lot of NOS energy drinks. Shortly after that tour they set off on a couple more tours including the latest one with nu metal legends Korn. So when I heard they were gonna be back in LA for a day before they play the last show of their tour over at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento,CA. The 1996 Joe in me needed to tag along.

After the trek north we settled in or hotel and it was a free for all for the day. Half of the band headed to the festival grounds, one went to watch the unfortunate fate of the LA Dodgers, and I got to hang out with a great friend and her puppy. Shortly after that, everyone met up at the grounds to catch Slayer and Tool. That was pretty tight.

We got back to the hotel to find out that Korn was staying in the same one. So it was like an end of tour party with a Korn and UFC fighters at the hotel bar.

The next day, we all got ready pretty early for a 10am load in. As we rolled into the festival grounds and pulled up by the Monster Main Stage. Checked in, got our green room and started to get everything ready for the day. It is insane how much work is put into one stage. Just imagine 3 big stages.

As the main stage openers finished. The snakes were getting ready to hit the stage.

1:20 PM, as the sun was high over Discovery Park in Sacrament. Silver Snakes take on the Monster Main Stage.

After a very solid  set that I must say sounded pretty great. The afternoon was filled with interviews and signings. We did get to catch a few other bands like Parkway Drive, Ghost, Korn and Avenged Sevenfold.

So these are some highlights from my day (weekend) with Silver Snakes. Make sure to check out their latest record ‘Saboteur’ out now on Evil Ink Records.

I would also like to thank the Silver Snakes dudes Alex, Mike, Garrett and Woods for letting me tag along for the weekend.
