Captain’s Log: Chapter 8

Waking up on the freeway every afternoon is another one of those opportunities to think about what you take for granted every day. Those kinds of thoughts are every kind of depressing, especially when the freeway you’re on is headed to Baltimore.

Baltimore Bathroom

I think it surprises everyone when they learn for the first time that the state our President (technically) lives in can be such a shit hole. Like I’m pretty sure Baltimore has the highest boarded windows per capita. And barbed wire fences.

The show at The Ottobar actually went over very well. By this point in time I managed to contract the Tour Plague and spent most of the evening lying in the fetal position. Oh, and then Julz smashes my face with his headstock during our set. #bestnightever. Kody’s parents made the drive from PA to hang out and restock our pantry with goodies, so not all was bad. Haha.

Doyle in Knoxville

Ben and I truck the overnight drive to Knoxville for another well attended show. Everyone can tell that the south is going to be good to us. I guess Whitechapel’s old guitarist was doing sound that night too, another neat little factoid.

After a little truck-stop-Denny’s-party with The Family Ruin to headline another one of those tiny towns that never gets any shows. The people of McMinnville, TN are some of the saddest, most grateful people we’ve ever met. It’s such a tight knit community that even the mayor apparently came out to see us. There’s a man that deserves reelection.

The next day in Tulsa marked Family’s last show on the tour and it was a complete banger. I’m eternally grateful for getting to know those guys over the weeks and I’ll only ever have nice things to say about them. I’m glad we got to end it on such a positive note. And on another note, the band taking over main support in Texas, was playing right next to our show the same night. Weird.

Coming up, 10 days in the Lone Star State.
